[Mac] XMoto 0.5.9

Post by BuBBu » Thu Dec 08, 2011 11:43 pm

Even though 0.5.9 should be a compilation-related bugfixes release, here you can download it for Mac OS X 10.4+ (tested only on 10.6): http://www.megaupload.com/?d=7WSEFQ5J
Enjoy! Especially those who don't read changelogs...

hmmmm...
very disappointing for me......

I was hoping this version would work for me here on my PPC Mac.

I am getting this error;

"Thread: Unknown

Link (dyld) error:

Library not loaded: /usr/lib/libiconv.2.dylib
Referenced from: /Volumes/WD320DATA/Downloads/XMoto 0.5.9 (super_universal)/XMoto.app/Contents/MacOS/xmoto
Reason: Incompatible library version: xmoto requires version 7.0.0 or later, but libiconv.2.dylib provides version 5.0.0
Model: PowerMac3,6, BootROM 4.4.8f2, 2 processors, PowerPC G4 (3.3), 1.4 GHz, 1.75 GB"

Any Mac users here know how I might deal with this ???

Well, it seems that libiconv shipped with your OS X (10.4?) is too old.
I've rebuilt anything including libiconv, so that it should not be a problem anymore. You can find the package at http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HI9Q57KT

Oh, wow, thanks....
I tried it just a moment ago and the site says "temporarily unavailable"... (4:12pm EST)
I'll try it again later and let you know how it goes....
I'm still actually using 0.3.4 and quite a lot of fun....
Thanks again, until later........

Hope it works!

OK, I downloaded your newer version and gave it a shot...
No-go... I got the exact same error message.

Out of curiosity, I went to that location " /usr/lib/libiconv.2.dylib" on my system and noticed that I did indeed HAVE "libiconv.2.dylib" and it was in the proper location.

I also saw that I had another 2 others, that looked like this;
"2010 libiconv.2.2.0.dylib -> libiconv.2.dylib"
and another one like this...
"libiconv.dylib -> libiconv.2.2.0.dylib"

So, I guess I am just out of luck with this.
Apparently, the required, newer, versions of libiconv will not work on my 10.4 system.
I'm not knowledgeable, or courageous enough to try anything here and will
just have to be satisfied with what i've got, till I can afford a new iMac and a more
current OS, besides I can run 0.5.7 on my PC Laptop too.
vers. 0.3.4 even has the advantage of being able to play back WR's slowly, and all zoomed in, to see how things are done.

Thank you again, for your concern and your time.

Actually, there is one "real" library (libiconv.2.dylib) and two symlinks pointing to it.
What OS X complains about is not the absence of said library, but rather the presence of the wrong version. You can find it by typing:

Code: Select all

otool -L /usr/lib/libiconv.2.dylib
If the new file doesn't work you may force OS X to "ignore" his own library and search it in another path (e.g. XMoto bundle):

Code: Select all

mkdir ~/lib-bck
sudo mv /usr/lib/libiconv*.dylib ~/lib-bck
If unsuccessful here is the way to restore previous situation:

Code: Select all

sudo mv ~/lib-bck/* /usr/lib/
rm -rf ~/lib-bck

Well...
I tried your new upload and at first, startup seemed normal, and it said it was loading the database files.
That took ~8-10 seconds and my hopes were really up, but then it just crashed again.

So, I guess I could try the commands you suggested and see if that works.
I have a quick question before I try that, however...

As far as restoring my original directory structure.....

Code: Select all

sudo mv ~/lib-bck /usr/lib/
that "mv" code line, that moves the files back to where they were will introduce a new folder
(/lib-bac) to my to my file structure, and yes... the old files will be in there, probably, but
should this not matter ?
Suppose some other app of mine is "hard coded" to look in a specific place
for it (them) ?

... Hoping you understand my question.

So sorry, don't do that. I wrote down the wrong command. It must be:

Code: Select all

sudo mv ~/lib-bck/* /usr/lib/
Previous command overwrites the whole /usr/lib structure with the couple of backed up libraries. What the correct version does is just placing them back where they belong to.
Sorry again.

While reading I missed the final "/", the command is not so destructive as I just said (I'm quite tired :D). But yes, you were right and it wasn't doing things good! Now it should...
Anyway the issue with libiconv seems to be fixed since the program starts, but I don't know why it keeps crashing.
Does it produce any error message? Is there any log file? Mine is in ~/.cache/xmoto/xmoto.log

Well........
I can finally get back here again... now, that I had to rebuild my whole system last night..
None of your new version uploads worked and moving the lib files around really did a job on my world for 24 Hours~or so....

Yes, now I see that you had appended the command line command suggestions but it was too late,
I did not catch it in time.

Thanks for trying, I still, so appreciate your attempts at helping, but i've had it with 5.9. for now.
The newer lib dll's are not just compatible with my current system and trying to force them to work
has turned out to be a bad idea, IMHO.

The app. still works fine for me, 3.4 on my current X11, and 5.7 on my PC, I'm happy....

XMoto, remains to be my favorite game app and until I find something better, I plan to
spend many more hours with it just as it is.

I'm sorry that none of the packages worked (1st and 2nd were linked to a newer SDK, while 3rd should be good), but none should break up a system so much that it had to be rebuilt (shouldn't at all).
The .dylib issue may mess things up a bit, but nothing unrecoverable in more than a couple of minutes...
Sorry anyway!

"break up a system so much that it had to be rebuilt (shouldn't at all)."

I ended up with a frozen system... It broke it enough, to where I could not reboot anymore.
I tried all the standard repair routines, even Disk Warrior.

I was able to finally do an Apple "archive & install" which essentially returned my system to where it was, and was very happy about it.
I have since revived my disk backup schedule and re-re-learned to "always back up" , before trying anything new.

So, hey... everything is cool here, and don't feel any blame for this, it's my problem.
Again, and again, thanks for trying to help.....

I've "moved on" ..... days ago, forget about it.
Mojo
